Being able to respond to the rapid need for change enforced upon us with the global pandemic has meant that the traditional methods of teaching and learning have had to be adapted quickly. Shane’s flexibility and embracing of online learning has ensured our apprentices progress has continued throughout social distancing with positive feedback from the apprentices. On-line learning may be the way forward over the coming months and we can learn from this successful teaching experience.
Divisional Director - Project Services
AMEC (now retired)
I write to congratulate you on 'The Practitioner Handbook of Project Controls', which I have proudly on my bookshelf and am dipping in to often. You have produced a work which is very long overdue and I think it is a brilliant contribution to the world of Project Control. Your book fills so many gaps which are badly required by our profession. Shane, you have done so much for the profession, from the days when you started your apprenticeship scheme to now, and you have my sincere admiration for everything you have achieved. "Go Forth" is an inspiration! If I was still updating my CV, you would be included in a section called "I know Shane Forth"!!!
Project Control Manager
Turner & Townsend
Shane was my functional line manager when I first started my apprenticeship and for many years thereafter. He was an integral part of arranging the content of my training programme and ensuring the supplementary education was appropriate. I feel that due to the efforts of Shane and a few others that I have truly benefited from the best on the job training I could have hoped for but that I also have the theoretical background and qualifications to back up my experience. On a personal level Shane is approachable, easy to talk to and it has always genuinely felt like he cares about every individual.

Shane Forth makes a wonderful contribution to our MSc in Engineering Project Management programme at Manchester Metropolitan University. Working closely with the academic teaching team, Shane brings to life the challenges of scheduling real life engineering and construction projects in a way that complements the project management theory in the course. His engaging style of lecturing and use of participatory exercise help deepen our students’ understanding of project planning and scheduling and increases their preparedness for their future careers as project management professionals
Senior Project Controls Specialist
I cannot recommend Shane highly enough. Going back to the initial setting up of the project controls apprenticeship along with other business directors which got me in to the industry initially and without I would likely not be in the role I am currently in but continuing on from that Shane’s ongoing guidance and support throughout not only my early but continuous career. Shane has a wealth of knowledge which he is happy to pass on to younger generations to improve the industry pool.
3PM Academic Lead
University of Warwick
I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Shane for over a decade. He has been a very effective Visiting Teaching Fellow here in the WMG Department of the University, delivering well constructed lectures and tutorials with considered and researched content. He is a lucid and engaging Tutor, his vast experience in the field being evident in his teaching and coaching. Moreover, he is a particularly likable personality so is readily accepted by all our students. I commend him to anyone considering engaging him professionally.
Senior Project Controller
Shane’s contributions to the awareness and development of Project Controls have been significant and greatly appreciated. Always approachable and never afraid to speak up Shane is a pleasure to work with, an excellent mentor and a fountain of practical knowledge.
Associate Professor, Head of Design and Engineering
I met Shane when he was completing his MSc in Project Management at University of Manchester and supervised his dissertation project. Shane’s knowledge of the field of project controls and his research in this subject area led to him being awarded ‘Best Dissertation’ prize in a national competition run by Association for Project Management. Shane is always very keen to share his knowledge with others and returned to the University to give guest lectures on schedule integrity. Students really appreciated his clear explanations and insight as well as his wide perspective from his extensive professional experience.
Programme and Project Management Director
I am pleased to endorse Shane's capabilities in the field of project controls (planning and cost controls). As an expert in that area he developed and presented a number of project controls training modules under the AMEC Projects Academy which I instigated while at AMEC. Shane is a subject matter 'expert' and was consulted by many across the Company on best practices in project controls

I have known Shane for a number of years initially on a professional and business basis which has grown into a friendship based on the common trust of persons who see the Cost Engineering function as an inherent part of the engineering and construction sectors of the process industrial sectors. He is very capable and has an infectious desire to promulgate the careers of students and apprentices to become trained cost and project services personnel ensuring the future of the projects to be undertaken within the UK and globally.
Manager of Data Mangement (Europe & Asia)
AMEC (2001 to 2003)
Shane is a very experienced and highly regarded member of AMEC's senior management team. I worked with Shane on various projects at AMEC. Shane is very approachable and extremely helpful person I have ever come across. Shane had numerous challenges throughout the project and took great pride in tackling each with a positive attitude and smile on his face. He is a very loyal and takes a great pride in meeting the highest expectations and challenging deadlines. He is logical, methodical, has an eye for detail and works quickly under pressure - all qualities required from a good Manager.
At Whessoe, Shane, as Company Project Services Manager, developed structured planning, scheduling and cost control systems based on CTRs. Whilst managing EPC contracts, I readily adopted his integrated system, which allowed me to be able to control, make decisions and give realistic forecasts and reports to the board on schedule, manhour, cost and cash flow issues. Previously project control systems differed from project to project and success relied too heavily on individuals ability. Shane also followed up with his support whenever needed. Shane also worked closely with projects carrying out proactive technical integrity reviews on the project schedule, the development of the CTRs and the scheduling templates. Between projects, I worked on EPC tenders with Shane who had responsibility for estimating and preparing Tender Board Papers and Risk Management analysis.
