Shane Forth was the recipient of the Global Project Controls Lifetime Contribution Award at the Project Controls Expo in November 2023, held at Wembley Stadium. This award recognises the outstanding contribution and dedication to the Project Controls profession by Shane throughout his career for his lasting positive impact to the professional community and moving it forward. The award was presented to Shane by Professor Adam Boddison OBE, CEO of the Association for Project Management.

Shane completed his dissertation, An Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Network Analysis Techniques in the Engineering and Construction Industry, as a participant in the University of Manchester PMPDP in 2013. He received national recognition for his dissertation from the Association of Project Management (APM) with the academic award, named in honour of the APM's first president, Geoffrey Trimble, for the best Master's post-graduate dissertation written during the year. Following completion of the project management professional programme (PMPDP) by distance learning at the University of Manchester, Shane received the Stephen Wearne award from the PMPDP European Steering Group and Board of Examiners for the best overall taught module and dissertation performance. Shane achieved the best results on both taught modules and dissertation from the University, Shane received the honour from Professor Peter Morris, author of The Management of Projects, eminent project management scholar and former chair and vice-president of APM. Upon receiving the award, Shane was pleased to tell Professor Morris that this was the best project management textbook he had read during his literature review and that it brought project management (often thought of as a dry subject) to life.

In 2012, the ECITB recognised Shane Forth's outstanding contribution to the Project Controls Profession for his dedication, leadership and advocacy in championing the development and implementation project control programmes and qualifications across the engineering and construction industry, including the very successful first UK project controls apprenticeship that he initiated in 2007. The award was presented to Shane by Andrew Collinson, ECITB Chairman and Director of Sales and Strategy at Alstom Power Services.

Working with the ECITB, BCECA and the Association of Cost Engineers, Shane Forth was instrumental in the development of an accredited National Vocational Qualification and Apprenticeship in Project Controls, aimed at 16-18 year olds to bridge the increasing skills gap in the industry. Of 14 project Controls apprentices employed in the first year, seven were with AMEC. Following its successful launch, the scheme was introduced in other parts of the UK.
