This simple idea has guided my work for over 30 years. Whether I am training graduates, supporting experienced engineers and managers or helping organisations strengthen their project capability, my goal is the same: to make project controls clear, practical, and relevant to all.

I founded GO FORTH in 2019 to help engineering and construction companies strengthen their project delivery capability through high-quality, practical training.
In the first two years, as GO FORTH, I delivered the ECITB Level 3 Project Controls Diploma at Middlesbrough College and was an associate trainer and consultant to other ECITB Approved Training Providers. During this time, GO FORTH also responded rapidly to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, by pioneering the shift from classroom teaching to virtual classroom delivery in the earliest fully virtual ECITB project controls training model.
In 2021, GO FORTH became an ECITB Approved Training Provider in its own right, specialising in virtual classroom delivery of ECITB-approved Project Controls, Estimating, Risk Management, and Document Management courses. My aim is simple: to give individuals and teams the skills to deliver projects well.
Rated Outstanding by the ECITB auditor, the GO FORTH approach brings together:
To date, GO FORTH has trained 400+ professionals, across 100+ job roles, for 50+ ECITB member companies, with 40% female attendance, something I am very proud of.

With over 50 years in project controls across Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Power, Petrochemical, Steel, Infrastructure and Manufacturing, I bring experience and dedication from a lifetime in project controls as a practitioner, leader and now trainer.
My career honours include:
I began my career in 1976 in planning and scheduling. Since 1992 I have led project controls functions and teams for major international and UK organisations such as Costain, AMEC, and Whessoe Engineering; pioneering techniques and digital systems that have helped shape industry best practice.
A big lesson I learned at the beginning of my leadership career was how hard it was to find skilled planning and project controls practitioners.
Moving from manual to digital systems in the early 1990s exposed a serious skills shortage and it became clear to me that a national effort, not just company level, was needed.
That realisation has stayed with me for the rest of my career and since then, I have helped shape national standards and competency frameworks, led the UK’s first Project Controls Apprenticeship in 2007 and went on to Chair the employer-led Trailblazer Group for both Level 3 and Level 6 Project Controls Apprenticeships.
I have contributed to the design of professional standards, career paths and graduate development programmes across UK industry.
As a Fellow of APM and the Controls & Skills Authority, past ACostE Vice-President, former BCECA Project Controls Committee Chair, and consulting editor and author of the Practitioner Handbook of Project Controls, I continue to support the wider profession.
Recognised as a thought leader, I have spoken at global conferences, guest lectured at universities, and regularly share insights and practical guidance on project management and project controls through this website and on LinkedIn.
