A Fellow of both the APM and Association of Cost Engineers and project controls subject matter expert, I have 45 years experience with leading engineering and construction businesses and a track record of major projects. These are in Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Power, Process and Infrastructure sectors. For over 25 years, my responsibilities have encompassed strategic and functional leadership in project management and controls and continuous improvement of capability.
My last two roles in industry were PMO Director for Costain (2014 to 2019) and Head of Function for Project Controls at AMEC (2010 to 2014).
Since 2002, I have been at the forefront of national initiatives to strengthen the UK project controls resource pool.
This includes apprenticeships and graduate programmes, career paths and higher professional recognition.
I joined BCECA Project Controls Committee on its formation in 2002. I then went on to become committee chair between 2008-2018.
My proudest achievement was to bring BCECA, ECITB and ACostE round the same table with my project controls industry peers. In this way we worked together to raise the profile and status of project controls.
In 2012 I was honoured by the ECITB with a national award for Leadership of Training and Development. I later chaired the Trailblazer group for the Project Controls Technician Apprenticeship. Today I continue to be active in this space. At AMEC, I established the structure and content of worldwide project controls development programmes for their Project Management Academy. I then managed the collaboration between external training providers to develop common material. Subsequently I co-delivered training to delegates around the world as lead project controls trainer.
I established GO FORTH in 2019. My mission is to help give people the skills to manage and control projects well. Key areas of focus are instructor-led virtual classroom training for ECITB Project Controls courses and guest lectures for universities. Through GO FORTH, I have helped numerous employees from ECITB Member Companies and many UK University students. I also provide consultancy services to other UK training organisations including quality assurance.
